Color of The Month Series: Punchy Purple
It’s a new month and time to chat about a new color: Purple! As a close friend of red (our July color of the month), purple is a fun and diverse color to use in design.
Historically, purple is the color of kings. It may arguably be the most opulent of colors, and often connotes mystery or spirituality. Purple is a mysterious color, indicative of rebalancing your life. It is found in sunsets, darkness and shadows, and is the combination of two complete opposites – red and blue. Purples run the range of invigorating red-purples such as eggplant to the calming blue-purples of a summer sky at sunset. Saturated purple is a dense, dark color that can provide a potent punch of color with great impact. As a tint, purple tends to lavender and is one of the daintier colors favored by many young girls. In certain shades, it can become a subtle, but very flexible neutral.
Purple can be invigorating or calming, depending on how much red or blue is in the shade. Purple promotes good judgment, meditation and spirituality. Use purple in meditation rooms or other areas in your home where you want to feel creative, spiritual or imaginative because it balances the mind.
The psychology of color dictates that you use purple in any space where you want to promote good judgment and meditation; where you want to create a regal and spiritual feel; and where you want to enhance imagination.
To begin my exploration into this glorious color, I’ve gathered a collection of pictures demonstrating purple used in various design schemes. With all the variable shades of purple, check out all the many moods this color can evoke!

{What a charming combo! I love the combination of paint and wallpaper in this hallway. Generally in design you’ll see a darker color on the bottom and lighter color on top of the wall divided by a chair rail, but they can be switched. This is a case in which the reversal really works!}

Another great post from you. Purple takes a bit of courage. I was looking at a pair of silver purple side chairs to add to my cream, black and copper living room last week (at TJ Maxx of all places) and just couldn’t pull the trigger. Now I am wondering if they are still there.
My faves here are the purple rug for a hit of color and the second and last photos.
Thanks for the inspiration.
