Man-O-Man Cave
The man cave is all the rage these days. Men crave an area of the home that they can take ownership of; where they escape and find refuge; where they can hang out with their “boys,” kick-back, relax, enjoy a drink or two and catch a game. Let’s face it, both men and women have a ‘spot’ in their homes that they gravitate towards – an area where they feel is all their own.
While women compare the interior of their home with their friends based on how well it is pulled together, how stunning the furniture and window treatments are, and how functional the home is, men are much more simple in how their compare their ‘man spaces.’ Having a very large TV, a bar, extra comfy, oversized seating and a game table or two is their focus and is how they rate their space when compared to their buddies’ caves. Contrary to popular belief, man caves are not female free zones, but spaces designed with a man in mind. In general, they contain any or all of the following items:
- Oversized, comfortable seating
- Media cabinet
- Large TV/Home theater system
- Pool table
- Dart board
- Poker table
- Full Size Bar or Wetbar
- Super functional furniture arranged for maximum TV viewing
Here are a few ideas for man caves that I have come across and thought I’d share them with you:
{This basement has been converted into a sports-bar type hang out spot, complete with 4 TVs, bar, and games. Don’t you just love the brick veneer?}
{This cozy den has tons of seating, rich textures and fabrics that have an overall masculine feel. This man isn’t about sports, but is more inclined towards intellectual pursuits. This room showcases this homeowner’s black and white artwork collection and his extensive library. And it provides ample space to stretch out and have a long debate with his male friends.}
{Part man cave, part office! Everyone needs a quiet spot to check email and surf the net, right?}
{How about this RED bar? This basement is reminiscent of a small restaurant’s bar area. Doesn’t it make for a good spot to watch TV or have a drink with friends?}
{Here is a design I particularly love—a large leather couch with a custom bar height table behind, which accommodates twice as many viewers during football season! Love, love, love it!!!}
